Lighting designs happen at a given point in time. There is an inordinate number of calculations and extensive preparation that occurs prior to the design process of a fixture, but at some point, the design is committed to a written plan. The purchasing of materials and fabrication happen according to this plan. The plan is locked in—and so is the light fixture.
But what happens if the information changes? What if the colors that were chosen for the walls were deemed to be too light once they were painted and the walls needed to become darker?
