Leveling Up with Layered Lighting

[ad_1]

Tis the season for layering . . . and while it’s smart to always have a sweater just in case of chillier temperatures, that is not the kind of layering I’m talking about. In fact, layering as a concept is not unique to clothing or even fashion for that matter. The technique of layering is also often used in cooking, interior design, and you guessed it: lighting! In its simplest form, layering is just adapting to changing conditions, optimizing a goal. You want to warm up? Throw on a sweater. Want a particular spice to shine in your holiday dish? Add more of it or pair with complimentary flavors. Feeling dark in your home or workspace? Add a layer of lighting!

There are three main categories of lighting: ambient, task, and accent. But, don’t be limited into thinking that means overhead fixtures, reading lamps, and wall sconces. There are literally thousands of products on 1000Bulbs.com ready to help you tackle those shadowy spaces. Typically thought of as under cabinet or task lighting, pucks and tape lighting can be installed just about anywhere. Instead of or in addition to under cabinets in your kitchen, how about installing some lights under the cabinet toe kicks instead? Not only will this extra layer of lighting brighten up your space, but it can also give a different feel, enhancing previously unnoticed architectural or decorative details. Challenged by the lack of light in your bathroom? Try adding some bar lights to your vanity area. In recent months, many of us have had to convert space in our home to accommodate our work needs . . . consider changing out existing light bulbs in one or more of your layers to high CRI energy-saving LED options. You’ll get more, better-quality light at a fraction of the cost. To keep that homey feeling and provide adequate light, try adding some lamps with vintage-style bulbs at desktop level.

Light layering is also important to consider in your outdoor spaces. Sure, it’s necessary to have overhead lighting. Then string up some patio lights and add a floodlight to illuminate the yard for outdoor activities and add some festive ambiance. Try some rope light to accentuate steps and handrails for safety. Choose some fun colors, and now you’ve got a party!

If you aren’t in the mood to install more fixtures or add more lamps, you can still get in the multi-layer lighting game. Dimmers are a great way to customize light levels in all areas of your home or business. Just make sure your bulbs and dimmers are compatible. You’ll find all the compatibility details listed with the dimmers on 1000Bulbs.com

Did you notice I said home or business in the previous paragraph? That’s right! Now that you’re getting the hang of this whole light-layering approach, know that it can also be practiced in commercial, retail, and office settings. Examine all your spaces for more illumination opportunities—It may bring your approach to lighting to a whole new level.

And throw an extra sweater in your car . . . just in case you need to layer up!
