This week on The Blog of Light we are continuing to spread the word about our all-new Collection of pendant lights and wall lights made in partnership with Staffordshire-based ceramics studio Laverick & Son.
Shades of fine porcelain are the focus of this compelling new range. Entitled The Laverick Collection, it features 11 ceramic pendant lights and nine corresponding wall lights.
Our aim is to provide the design community with wide-ranging options so that they can satisfy diverse design briefs with ease. In the case of this Collection it’s all about delivering a warm, honeyed quality of light and using natural materials to create an environment conducive to wellbeing.
Read on to learn more about our partners in this Collection, Laverick & Son, and see key pieces from the Collection…
Why choose ceramic shades
Tony Laverick is one of Britain’s leading ceramic studio potters with a career stretching back over 30 years. He is renowned for his skilful use of porcelain and complex use of glazes and lustres.
Tony Laverick says, “Nothing else can replicate the unique quality of light made when it’s cast through the naturally soft filter of fine, translucent porcelain. It has a slightly warmer hue than with bone china, producing a rich, golden glow. The form, the texture and the matt finish of each luminaire are carefully considered, for an organic, holistic appearance that adds to the warm atmosphere.”
The Grand Ceramic Pendant Light
Jack Laverick is part of the new generation of ceramic designers & makers using clay to produce contemporary and on-trend designs for the home.
Jack says, “Developing this collection with Gwyn and his team just a stone’s throw away in Derbyshire, we’ve discovered a synergy there in terms of using centuries-old artisanal techniques to create contemporary homeware pieces. We all share a passion for handcrafted homewares and working in environmentally friendly ways, and this Collection of unique luminaires reflects this creative drive and enthusiasm.”

A shared commitment to Sustainability
Both The Light Yard and Laverick & Son share a commitment to environmentally sustainable materials, processes and packaging.
Here at The Light Yard we maintain a low carbon footprint by domestically sourcing materials while continuously improving our resource efficiency.
At Laverick & Son, clay which is unused in the moulding process can be poured out and re-used, thus the manufacturing of its porcelain shades is very low-waste. The business also makes use of technology where possible to increase sustainability, such as the use of wind turbines, solar panels and bio mass fuels.
The Cylinder Wall Light
The Laverick Collection marks our third range of distinctive lighting launched across Spring/Summer 21. We previously revealed our Epoque Collection in partnership with renowned mouth blown glass brand LSA International, as well as our Prismatic Collection, comprising “timeless” ribbed glass wall lights and pendant lights; both are available now.
