“I’m obsessed with the tabacs that exist in Paris. They are all over the place and serve as a quick respite for locals in each neighborhood.”
Adi Goodrich
When tasked to design a gathering space, Lumens Innovators Council member and LA-based spatial designer Adi Goodrich immediately knew where she’d draw inspiration: Parisian tabacs. “When I lived in Paris, I would pop in quickly before jumping onto the Metro. I’d be squeezed between suited businessmen, all of us drinking our espressos very quickly.” Goodrich recalls. Her design here reimagines the tabac as a French transplant in LA, using her favorite core details, but with contemporary pieces and an LA palette. “The tabacs I love most were designed and built pre-WW2 – they have a charm to them, and if the current owner made the right decisions, they made no decisions at all: they kept the original design as-is.”
