Jon Netti is a new Australian label founded to create candles as good for the planet as they are for people.

Founder Alicia Bermingham spent months researching the most appropriate methods and materials for her products, arriving at unscented beeswax—a natural byproduct of the honey making process.

‘From the outset, I wanted to craft handmade products that would enhance daily rituals, create atmospheres that were safe for all, and provide opportunities for deeper conversations and true relaxation to occur,’ Alicia says. ‘Beeswax reflects these core values— nothing can be hurried with nature—and I’m so appreciative that we get to work with this medium.’

The newly-launched label produces two tapered and three freestanding pieces personally made by Alicia. ‘The first thing I do in the morning is turn on our wax vats so that the wax can gently melt and become molten. This fills the studio with the most incredible subtle honey scent,’ she says.

The production process of Jon Netti varies by product, spanning time-honoured traditions of repeatedly hand dipping wick into molten wax, to hand pouring into custom moulds.

Jon Netti also crafts ceramic vessels through the process of slip casting. All pieces are glazed and fired twice to vitrification, ensuring each vessel can be reused long after the wax has been expended.

When lit, a Jon Netti candle emits a wonderful flow indulging the senses of sight, smell, and touch. ‘I love that a beeswax flame shares the same colour spectrum as sunlight,’ says Alicia. ‘Its mood-altering warmth brings so much ambiance to a space and is truly transformative.’

Alicia hopes customers feel inspired to slow down and spoil themselves from the moment of receiving their Jon Netti piece. ‘I knew I wanted to make candles and I wanted to ensure our beautiful customers received a full, immersive experience. This begins with their first interaction with the brand, right through to the unboxing experience.’
