This home in the Geelong suburb of Newtown has lofty proportions newly designed by Tecture, and a light, neutral material palette selected by interior designers Built by Wilson. To tie the whole space together and create a liveable, comfortable family space – they enlisted stylist Simone Haag to curate furnishings that would do just that.

‘This project first crossed my plate when I was invited by the Built by Wilson team to furnish and style their newest project,’ explains Simone. ‘I was able to call on my trusted suppliers to source from items that didn’t carry lengthy lead times. This enabled a process where decision making was focused, and intuition was heavily relied upon.’

Working closely with DOMO, Simone focussed on a mix of earthy tones and patterned textures to complement the existing finishes. The Ligne Roset TV dining chairs were chosen ‘for their mid-century flavour’, while the sculptural stacked DS-1025 sofa in a minimalist grey makes a statement presence without overwhelming the space. Each sequence is tied together by a series of rugs from Halcyon Lake that share a textural and tonal narrative.

Painted walls created a cosy feel in the comfort-driven spaces, which were made cosy with soft, curved furniture like the Miles Swivel Chair and 3-seater Bol Sofa in the sitting room.

‘The De Sede 1025 sofa is a piece that I have always wanted to specify in a project,’ says Simone. There was a pocket of space beside the sliding glass doors that opened to the terrace, that didn’t have its own distinct purpose. For this slightly confounding ‘living space beside a living space’, Simone created distinct zones by grouping the lounge room furniture on its own rug. ‘We created the ultimate have-a-gin-with-friend moment that is the perfect vantage spot to both to the living-dining area and the outdoor courtyard,’ she says.

The end result is a truly gorgeous and live-able space, for design-conscious family living.

DOMO‘s extensive collection of international designer furniture includes key brands such as Ligne Roset, de Sede, Wittmann, Sika Design, HC28 Cosmo and Pulpo to name a few. Locate one of their showrooms now across Melbourne, Sydney, North Adelaide and Brisbane.
