Perhaps the greatest test of a house is if it can survive multiple periods of stay-at-home orders. The Garden House by DOOD Studio totally did!

‘The flow of the house is fantastic, which we especially noticed during lockdown,’ says owner, Rachel Allan. ‘It’s large enough for everyone to have their own space, but we can still manage to keep an eye on the kids.’

But the time is ripe for a new adventure, which means this brilliant, breezy family home is in the market for new owners!

The single storey residence takes full advantage of its wide and long block. Due to its new orientation around a north-facing internal courtyard, the home is flooded with light throughout the day. A raised sitting room links the original front bedrooms to the new open-plan renovation, and overlooks the green lawn towards the main bedroom suite at the rear of home.

The kitchen is the real hero, with terrazzo surfaces, green cabinetry, skylights and sliding glass doors opening to the brick terrace, every angle of the room is bathed in light. How good is that in-built curved banquette seat?

Blending a new minimalist style with referential retro finishes, the inspired design takes cues from both new and old time periods. Clean white lines and natural materials work in dialogue with the green lawn, which can be viewed from each wing of the U-shaped house.

Are you the new custodians of this perfectly planned family residence?

141 Pearson Street, Brunswick West will be sold via auction on Saturday February 26th at 11am by James Labiris, Gordon Hope and Christian Cortese. See the full listing here.
