Any home can be truly be improved with great design. And that was certainly true for Evelyn and her daughter Becca. They knew a full-scale home remodel was long overdue. Inside their home, space was cramped, the design was outdated, and there just wasn’t enough storage space. That’s when Mike Pyle and Carmine Sabatella stepped in from HGTV’s Inside Out.
Finding the Perfect Style
Co-hosts Mike and Carmine combine their talents of interior and landscape design to create beautiful homes for their clients. In this case, they did just that and tackled Evelyn’s project with ease. The main living areas were tight and made it hard to entertain, so one of the main priorities was the kitchen remodel.
Interior Designer, Carmine said this Post-Modern 1954 Tract Home needed a serious update, so he chose a Contemporary Ranch style. Another necessity was more natural light and increasing the overall size of the kitchen. Originally, the kitchen was surrounded by walls and an excessive number of doors making it small, dark, and awkward.
After the demo, the kitchen was re-designed in Signature Plus line’s Fairfield door style in Lily and Indigo. To complete the cabinet design, Carmine worked directly with CliqStudios designer, Nicole Catlett. Together, they added new base cabinets along the window wall that stretched from end-to-end increasing storage and function.
Along with a beautiful new island, the kitchen remodel was complete with a built-in wall oven and refrigerator, roll-out trays, a pull-out trash cabinet, and a tiered cutlery divider. Decorative cove crown molding was used to bring cabinets to the ceiling while white quartz countertops perfectly tied into the new textured and polished backsplash tile.
A Designer’s Perspective
CliqStudios designer, Nicole talked about her experience working with Carmine and Inside Out. “It was a fun and exciting experience. I liked the fact that I got to interact with the homeowner because that’s most important to me. It was important I knew I was delivering what the homeowner needs. If it doesn’t function, then I didn’t do my job.”
She continued, “The biggest thing was trying to make sure everyone was on the same page including the client. There were a couple of different layouts that I tried, but since there was a wall of windows, we had to place most of the appliances on the other wall.” Nicole ended by saying, “I was really happy to do it when they first announced that we were going to do an HGTV show. I was just excited that I was able to get one. I would do it again.”
Final Kitchen Remodel Reveal
When it came time to reveal the kitchen, Evelyn and Rebecca were ecstatic. As they walked through the kitchen Evelyn said, “This came out awesome- it’s gorgeous! Now that I’m in this space, I’m thinking about what it used to look like. It was a mess.” Her daughter Becca commented, “I love the island!” Evelyn continued to say, “I really do love this kitchen and how it turned out. You did a great job. This is going to be the centerpiece of this house.”
Carmine jumped in by saying ‘You had four doorways within about 12 feet of each other, and the only ones you needed were the French doors going outside. So now to me, it frames the space. We were able to carry the cabinets all the way to the wall which we really wanted to do, but I know natural light was a really big thing, so we gave you the upper window.”
In the end, both Evelyn and Becca were thrilled with every detail. The new kitchen design and whole home remodel was exactly what they needed to feel comfortable, happy, and enjoy their home to the fullest. Evelyn finished by saying, “I will be happy with this for a very, very long time.”
