Open Kitchen Design with Medium Gray Cabinets

“We built our personal house four years ago and we found that we loved the new home construction process,” CliqStudios Pro Partner Sarah G. says. “So we started our own business building and selling houses about three years ago.”

Entering the home building industry was a natural transition for Sarah and her husband.

“I have a degree in interior design and my husband has worked in the construction field as a sub-contractor for 13 years,” Sarah explains. “So we have a bit of a background in the construction business. I draw out the floor plans and design everything and he is the project manager.”

Although Sarah enjoys designing the whole home, she is partial to one space.

“Kitchens are my favorite room to design,” Sarah shares.

For this project, Sarah chose Medium Gray cabinets in CliqStudios’ Shaker door style. She is often drawn to the simple lines of a Shaker cabinet.

“Gray and white is fresh looking and very versatile,” designer Myisha says. “You could use that palette in styles from industrial to farmhouse to modern. It translates really well.”

Sarah agrees, “I chose the Medium Gray painted cabinet for this project because it spoke casual and modern to me. The gray also creates a neutral palette that works really well with wood tones.”

This palate is growing in popularity as homeowners are realizing the versatility of gray in the kitchen. A recent Houzz report found that white and gray are the two most popular kitchen paint colors.

Like many homebuilders, Sarah knew this space would function best with an open kitchen design. The casual island seating area opens to the living room and a formal dining space. Thoughtful cabinet storage maximizes every inch of the space.

“This kitchen has some of our most popular features,” Myisha says. “The Wastebasket Pull-out is in the island for easy access. The Super Susan is a great way to make use of corner space. The Drawer Base by the oven is deep enough to store pots and pans.”

A few decorative finishes give this kitchen a modern farmhouse style. The cabinet hardware, drawer cup pulls and door knobs, brings a vintage look to the space. Two black pendant lights with an antique barn style illuminate the island.

“One of my favorite features is the shelving by the window,” designer Myisha shares. “I enjoy putting glass front doors around the sink because it really opens up the space by the window.”

This modern farmhouse kitchen is sure to be the backdrop of many memories for the new homeowners.
