White shaker kitchen cabinets are a dream for many homeowners, and that’s exactly what Emily wanted for her kitchen. Coming from traditional dark red stained cabinets, she was hoping for something quite different. After much searching, she found a dream shaker kitchen with the exact same layout. The most exciting difference was white shaker cabinets, wood floating shelves, and minimal wall cabinetry for an open, airy effect.

Designer Kathy Zimmerman explained that Emily wanted to keep her appliances locations, but upgrade the cabinetry. The kitchen was designed in painted white Shaker style with a Blue painted island. Creating a focal point with the stainless-steel chimney hood was very important to Emily along with wood floating shelves and herringbone tile backsplash.

Interior cabinet accessories were next on the wish list. Most of the kitchens’ base cabinets were designed as drawer bases to maximize storage and match the dream photo. Other important extras included a pull-out trash cabinet and roll-out tray pantries that could hold many of her countertop appliances.

After a few meetings and revised drawings, Emily was ready to finalize her design. Coming prepared with inspirational photos and having a well-rounded idea of the storage she desired helped the design process go quickly. With a little designer help and guidance, Emily was able to get the kitchen design of her dreams.
