Wattyl release 500 new colours after Milan design fair

The recent Milan design fair, Salone del Mobile, confirmed what many of us have been suspecting: warm, subtle earthy hues will be adorning our homes for quite some time, and gone are the greys of the past decade.

Paint brand Wattyl are responding by releasing a whopping 500 new colours. New additions to the interiors colour palette include warm, honey yellows and olive greens. These colour preferences are fuelled in part by our increased awareness of the importance of sustainability and recycling plus a growing desire to experience and celebrate nature.

Honey Pot

The neutrals in the palette include beige and sand, to bring more warmth and life to the space than some of the many greys we have been seeing, each with a slight yellow or orange undertone. Warm whites, creams and caramels also play a big role in this palette and create the perfect canvas for pops of colour such as muted amber or warm honey and  olive green.

Cocktail olive

Perhaps the most exciting aspect of this palette, says Wattyl, is the many tonal values of the colours – there are subtle differences within each hue – that can be used tone on tone – creating a sense of intrigue and depth that can subtly enhance architectural details.

The palette as a whole creates a comforting calm to an interior while hinting at an understated luxury – it also forms the perfect canvas for the inclusion of other natural materials – leather, stone, timber, rattan and brick as well as terrazzo, textile weaves, ceramics and plaster.

Stone

All the new colours are available in the brand’s ultra low VOC interior paint, I.D. Advanced. Available in gloss, semi-gloss, low sheen and matt finishes, Wattyl I.D Advanced interior paint is available nationally from Wattyl Paint Centres, Mitre 10, Home, Timber & Hardware and other leading paint specialists. It retails from $104.35 for a 4L can.
