Interior designer Kate Lawrence knocked down an old house to develop these two stylish architectural duplexes. We love the increasing trend for luxury duplexes, especially with the current cost of living crisis, so we were keen to find out more.
Kate’s background in building came from renovating and developing her own properties with husband Luke. “Working on our own renovations or builds is what gave me the confidence to leave my full time media job and study interior design, turning it into a full-time profession.”
Five years on, she works with a range of clients across the country to help bring their homes to life while doing her own passion projects on the side. “I have a very pared back design style which focuses on clean lines, natural materials and minimal colour.”
These two spacious homes in Matraville each have four bedrooms, three bathrooms and a basement garage and were sold off the plan to young families.
“My original brief to the architect was white, timber and a modern take on a Tuscan villa. I wanted the exterior and interior to compliment each other,” Kate says. “My favourite space in the house is the kitchen and living. I love the light that floods through the highlight windows and the timber cabinetry with the limestone-look tiles.”
Kate splurged on Australian tapware by Faucet Strommen. “The colour is a beautiful live, antique brass. The biggest bargain was the window sheers and blinds through DIY Blinds who do an amazing job at such a competitive price.”
She used Hardie Fine Texture Cladding instead of render at the rear of the home. “This complemented the render we had in place as well as saving us time and money on the install, plus drying time with all of the wet weather we had last year!”
