Range Report: Color is Hot

I’m back from the KBIS trade show in Las Vegas where I walked three halls of exhibits from both international and domestic brands showcasing their new and noteworthy products. There was a lot of buzz around the kitchen ranges in the West Hall and some design celebrities bringing attention to the colorful ranges on display.

Color on ranges was a big hit in the 1970s, I remember the avocado green and mustard yellow refrigerators and stoves from that decade, I even had one leftover from that era in my rental apartment in college! Gone are those dated hues. In the past few decades we’ve seen mostly stainless steel, black, and white ranges and stoves. Well move over neutrals, the colorful kitchen range is back and it’s a hot item in kitchen design.

Slide-in and free standing ranges in beautiful new shades owned the spotlight at the show and I found myself swooning just as much as everyone else. If you’re in the mood for color in your kitchen or simply want to bookmark these manufacturers for future reference, here’s a list of brands where you can choose from a variety of bright or subtle colors to create a focal point in your kitchen.

AGA Range USA

This British company offers a series of ranges in the USA through dealers in Classic colors and also the Soho colors for their Elise and Mercury ranges.

Viking

This company currently has a suite of global hues to choose from for their luxury ranges, and announced they are expanding their colors to include more designer curated colors in a fresh palette for 2024. I saw the Eucalyptus in person at KBIS and would absolutely love to use that shade in a future kitchen!

New Viking colors coming soon!

La Cornue

French manufacturer is the crème de la crème of ranges in the industry, these ovens can cost as much as a car, but wow they are stunning and chef’s kiss, for real. Williams Sonoma is a dealer and you can purchase these top of the line ranges from their store. It’s fun to play with the “build your own” page on the La Cornue website where you can see the multiple colors available, I especially love the new colors in partnership with Susanne Kasler.

SMEG

This Italian company’s Portofino range is available in multiple sizes and in shades of red, yellow, orange, green, and turquoise, with three sizes available for purchase through Williams Sonoma.

ILVE USA

This Italian brand offers several colors and sizes for their ranges, these models have unique and attractive knobs and elongated pulls like La Cornue and less saturated rich colors. This high end brand is available through Wayfair and other dealers if you search them online.

Z Line

A more budget friendly selection of ranges is available from Z Line, I just wish their colors went beyond cobalt and red, but they do offer black and white which is nice.

Unique

The Classic series by this company in both gas and electric offers two retro colors in mint and turquoise if you want a throwback or look or fun coastal vibe in a kitchen.

Big Chill

Another company that offers retro style ranges, ovens, and other colorful appliances is Big Chill, their retro collection has a range of fun colors in it if you want a unique color like jadite, buttercup, or pink lemonade, take a peek at their color samples.

Would you consider a colorful range in your home? They’re so fun!
