It’s time for our Selling Houses Australia recap, where we highlight all the best before & afters from the latest episode! This week’s mission? Reviving a dated house into a modern yet inviting oasis!

This week’s episode introduced us to Romano’s dreary abode, where he first moved in 2010 with his wife Iris. Sadly, two years ago, Iris passed away, leaving Romano alone in the house. After over 50 years together, it has been a difficult time for Romano and his family. Romano’s two daughters worry about his wellbeing in the house. Daughter Eliana has been living with her Dad, but they want to find somewhere that is lower maintenance with better accessibility where they can all live so that Romano doesn’t need to go into a care home.The house is tired, old fashioned and needs fixing up, and Romano is a little disillusioned in thinking that his daughters can do all the work.

Enter the Selling Houses team!

The layout of the kitchen was not a good use of space which Wendy Moore wanted to focus on addressing. The team decided to use a flat-pack kitchen to create a bigger and better layout, with new appliances and feature lights. They also created areas to sit and eat, making the space more functional and welcoming. To address how dark the kitchen felt, skylights were installed to flood the space with more natural light.

The third bedroom had a second door that opened onto the kitchen, which wasn’t beneficial and made the room feel more like a throughway. To create more options for the space, they closed off the door, making it a proper third bedroom. This also meant they had another wall to work with for styling and the layout of furniture within the room.

New paint, wallpaper and furniture were used throughout the home to take it from old and tired to fresh and welcoming. Wendy opted for modern colours and added warmth and cosiness using soft furnishings and rugs.
