Adairs joined hands with Cungelella Art to recite stories of Kalkatungu homelands in their newest collection. The Indigenous art project between four Kalkadoon sisters inserts a stunning colour palette influenced by ancient rock faces, spinifex-covered hills and the shades of the Mount Isa sunset.
Evoking the feeling of coming home, the original paintings are translated into bed linen, homewares, serving ware and, for the first time within a collaboration collection, limited edition wall art.
Cungelella Art is a project named after the family’s grandmother, with sisterhood, family, motherhood, and home at the heart of what they do. The sisters grew up in their traditional homelands, where they still reside today, raising 14 children and using art as a way to protect and preserve their Aboriginal culture.
‘We cannot wait to see the Adairs collaboration come to life. When we painted this collection, we wanted to evoke a feeling of homeland, calm, grounding and, most importantly, family. Our featured prints in the collection are inspired by the colours of Kalkatungu Country, the native plants, and the beautiful grass known as spinifex that covers the outback landscape,” says founder Glenda McCulloch.
‘The Adairs Kids and nursery collection incorporates the rainbow as a sign of hope and the night stars that can only be seen in full bloom when camping out bush.”
