We’ve featured the work of Front Porch Properties’ Rachael Turner before and it’s always a pleasure to take a virtual step inside her projects. Rachael’s aesthetic is drawn from American-style homes, modern farmhouses, barns, and cottages and this distinctive mix can be seen in the lovely Brisbane bathroom renovation that we have for you today.

Part of a 1930’s Queenslander, this bathroom serves a dynamic professional couple who came to Rachael with a brief to create a main bathroom that combines playful charm with a contemporary edge. “It’s a change of direction from our typical Front Porch Properties design aesthetic but we love a bold and confident client,” says Rachael.

The original, tired bathroom was in keeping with the heritage of the home but was in dire need of an update. And aesthetics aside, addressing the owners’ struggle with storage was a focus of the renovation, as was the desire to maximise natural light. “The most impactful structural alteration to the bathroom was the installation of the skylight over the shower area. This addition of natural light truly transforms the space, allowing all the elements within to shine and create a brighter, more inviting atmosphere,” says Rachael.

The bathroom features Phoenix Vivid Slimline tapware and accessories, sourced from The Blue Space. The wall hung vanity is from Ingrain and features a veined sintered stone top.

Aside from a new skylight, the room underwent a significant reconfiguration which involved the removal of the existing bath which was replaced with a full-length shower that runs the entire length of the room. The shower features Rachael’s trademark stone ledge. In addition, the toilet was relocated to the previous small shower cubicle area which improved the functionality of the space.

The bathroom’s soft blue-green wall tiles complement the vibrant wallpaper and the ribbed, curved shower screen mirrors the grooves on the timber vanity. “This bathroom project pushed the boundaries of our usual colour palette, but our client’s bold and confident choices resulted in a design we absolutely adore,” says Rachael.

“The space is truly a feast for the senses, with an abundance of details to love. From the organic soft blue tiles to the warm wood tones of the vanity, and the exquisite feature wall lights that harmonise with the brushed gold tapware and the veins in the sintered stone — it’s a highly textural experience. Every detail captures the eye, creating a visually rich and inviting atmosphere in the bathroom,” says Rachael.
