Friends, it’s June and the renovation of the Florida house has begun! When I last mentioned the house we bought in Florida and shared some ideas for the remodel, I mentioned the first thing I wanted to do was cover the dark blue walls with fresh white paint!
Enter Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines® paint to help me to transform the living room in an afternoon! . When we bought the house the previous owner had painted the living room with a navy blue accent wall, a nice color but not my style for this space.
I crave fresh white walls in community rooms, especially ones that flow from space to space. A white or a neutral backdrop allows the furniture, art, plants, and accents to shine. I was able to complete this makeover in a single day!
I picked up swatches and a sample in the morning, chose the perfect color, and I was painting by the middle of the day. Before painting, I prepped the space by removing electrical plates and protecting the flooring with a tarp. After two coats of paint, by the evening I was done. The next morning I moved the new furniture and accents into place. An easy 24 hour makeover!
Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines® paint offers 150 colors to choose from. I went straight for the neutral zone and perused their selection of whites. I debated between ‘Silos White’ and ‘Pearly Cotton’ and chose the latter since it was closer in hue to the surrounding walls.
‘Pearly Cotton’ is described as a bleached beige, which is spot on. It has a hint of vanilla to it too, and definitely leans more beige than taupe. It’s a lovely warm white that fits my living room space perfectly.
I was happy to learn more about the Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines® paint line by KILZ® because I’d never worked with this brand before. The paint includes primer which saves a step! Instead of using primer and then covering walls with two coats of paint in the past, the primer is no longer necessary. I chose the matte sheen for a soft powdery finish.
The Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines® paint line by KILZ® covered most of the navy blue in the first coat, about 90%. To achieve even coverage, I added a second coat of ‘Pearly Cotton’.
What I love about this paint is the great coverage and there’s no odor. After an afternoon of painting two coats, I didn’t need to open windows or wait for paint fumes to dissipate. I was able to rearrange the living room the very next day.
I swapped out the previous owner’s rug, coffee table, and end table and removed the faux fireplace. In its place I added a modern credenza, my own art print, and a few accessories I purchased locally.
You can find the Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines® paint line by KILZ® all across the USA at these stores. I found mine at my local Ace Hardware, most of them carry this brand, and it’s also where you’ll find swatches and samples to test before you commit to a color and sheen.
The KILZ® studio has multiple videos with Joanna Gaines offering her tips and tricks for painting walls, trim, and furniture, be sure to check them out and get inspired for your next DIY project!
