Escape to Paradise: Cumulus Villa – A Tropical Oasis in Bali

[ad_1]

Enter Cumulus Villa, a 550 square-meter contemporary tropical villa in South Kuta, Bali, Indonesia, envisioned by Arkana Architect. This stunning family villa offers an escape from the ordinary with an incredibly spacious interior layout and expansive exterior living spaces that envelop the building in lush greenery. A unique diagonal construction results in wider living, dining, and kitchen areas, creating an airy setting for relaxation and entertaining. Life at the villa harmoniously integrates with the outdoors, merging common routine with the uplifting beauty of nature in the garden, or when hanging out in the swimming pool, gazebo, or tree house. Riverstone walls give a sense of permanence to the modern villa and bestow wonderful character both inside and out.

The modern home exterior cuts a linear aesthetic against the clear blue skies of Bali, Indonesia. The second story of the two-level home is defined by warm wood cladding, which creates an attention-grabbing wraparound. A tower of river stone gives the building a look of great strength, which spreads across the foot of the construction.

At night, the villa glows inside and out with thoughtful lighting schemes. The terraces brightly accommodate get-togethers long into the evening.

Combining traditional Indonesian natural materials with modern counterparts fashions a contemporary tropical style. The footprint of the building was turned on its axis to attain a wider green space around it.

The living room is placed in the middle of the lower floor. Garden views enter from two sides, creating a serene space for relaxation. The dual aspect also allows the homeowners to reimagine their interior layout to face either way.

Sliding glass doors connect the living space to the two gardens, and link them to each other in perfect alignment. When the doors are drawn back, a soothing cross-breeze flows through.

The family villa includes a smart home system, allowing the owners to watch over the property via their smartphones when they are not in Bali.

Inside the luxury villa, the furniture is modern and cozy. A predominantly neutral color scheme is uplifted by small colorful accent pieces and indoor plants.

High ceilings and unique ceiling fans cool the vast living areas.

Teakwood enriches the sophisticated interior decor scheme.

Steel was employed as the main structural material. River stone and andesite stone were sourced from Bali, Sumba, to Lombok to recreate an American stone house aesthetic, as per the client’s vision.

Although transparent facades dominate each side of the living room dining room combo, corners of river stone construct points of interest.

Dual-height windows drink in a wide skyscape. Steel window frames strike an edgy, contemporary look.

A traditional Indonesian design decorates the wooden dining table, creating a graceful connection with the home’s location.

The double height living room features a mezzanine level. The homeowners enjoy a direct view of Melasti Beach from a mezzanine floor, as well as up on the roof terrace.

The vertical stone volume that climbs from the ground floor to the rooftop forms the core of the circulation for the villa. Stacks of river stones encase the staircase within.

A sheltered walkway threads through the garden. Green landscaping unfolds on either side.

A lawned courtyard design offers a safe, flat spot for the children to run and play. Established trees add height and form.

Natural jute rugs separate seating areas into individual zones.

Upstairs, a glass bedroom absorbs views of the street and the beauty beyond.

The laser-cut cumulus clouds window screen is the homeowner’s artwork. It elevates the peaceful bedroom decor scheme with a wall of intricate detail.

Teak paneling cocoons this bedroom in a rich, warming tone and texture. A small sofa is situated at the end of the bed, where the homeowner can take in the panorama.

A sliding door connects the bedroom to a luxurious ensuite bathroom. A freestanding bathtub is surrounded by a glorious green scene.

The intricate window screen design conjures wonderful light-play when the sun shines through.

Black metal and teak wood build the modern staircase design. Open risers allow natural light to flow through the ascent.

Atmospheric lighting trickles over the river stone walls of the stairwell, creating a sensory experience.

A rectangular swimming pool and a paved poolside sitting area border the lawned garden with an L-shaped embrace.

Outdoor furniture encourages daily life to spill outside into the fresh air.

A glass balustrade draws across the screened bedroom windows, creating a Juliet balcony when the panels are opened.

A large rooftop area provides additional space for outdoor activities, relaxing together, enjoying a BBQ, and entertaining guests. Geometric floor tiles lay a trendy pattern across the terrace.

From an elevated view, we can better observe the twisted arrangement of the building on its plot. The rotation creates engaging pockets of outdoor space. The property is cushioned from its nearest neighbors by a blanket of trees and shrubs.
